Rioja Wine Education (Basic)

Course Objective

Developed by the Regulador Consejo (Control Board) of the Rioja DOCa, the Rioja Wine Education Program. This certification course aims to provide an understanding of all aspects of Rioja DOCa, probably Spain’s most renowned wine region.

Course Outline

  • Understand the history of Rioja DOCa wine region
  • Explore Rioja’s production areas by examining grape varieties, climate, soil, topography etc.
  • Highlight on Rioja’s key grape varieties
  • Decode Rioja wine classification and labels
  • Practical tasting of 5 wines

Course Duration

2 hours

Certification

Participants will receive an official certificate issued by Regulador Consejo of the Rioja DOCa upon successfully passing an examination consisting of 30 multiple- choice questions.

Successful participants may choose to proceed on to the next level: Rioja Wine Education (Advanced)

WSET – Wine Education Week

International Wine Education Week is a global consumer
campaign organised by WSET to raise
awareness of wine education. The campaign
aims to highlight the benefits of knowing
more about wine.

The week will consist of a broad range of PR
and promotional activity underpinned by a
programme of independent events for the
public to participate in.

    This introductory tasting provides you with the skills to start
    tasting wines like a true professional.
  • Mastering Maturation
    Ever wondered why Riojas can taste so different? Or what
    makes your glass of Chardonnay taste buttery? Learn how
    ageing wines in barrels and bottles can impact the taste of the
    wine you drink.
